Inspirational Space: ANdAZ Maui

Here is another inspirational space, this time from Wailea Maui, Hawaii! The ANdAZ hotel is a great modern design. It has a refined simple elegance to it with natural elements and neutral colors.

This entry makes such a statements with these gemoetric beams framing the lobby space.

Inspirational Space: Goodland Hotel

Goodland Hotel

Goleta, California

The Goodland Hotel in Goleta, California is one of my favorite Kimpton Hotels. It's got a modern but very relaxed and beach-y vibe. It feels like you were invited to a friends home rather than a hotel with the fun and funky furniture, fabrics, and colors they have chosen to use. Each element was clearly carfully chosen for the space, but they made it look effortless.

Inspirational Space: Delano Hotel

DELANO HOTEL

Las Vegas, Nevada

One of my favorite hotel lobbies in Las Vegas is the Delano. The Delano has a sort of refined sexiness that seamlessly mixes feminine and masculine elements together. You can tell that each item chosen for this lobby space was carefully considered to keep this design intent clear. If Don Draper (from the TV series Mad Men) were a modern man, he is the kind of man that would stay at the Delano.

From the minute you step out of your car, the Delano will give you an experience unlike any other hotel in Las Vegas.

The lobby is lined with structural columns that are hidden behind sheer drapery, making this space feel warm and cozy. These sheer drapes also give the space that little touch of sexiness, reminding you of bed sheets.

The Franklin Bar in the Delano Lobby is very reminiscent of the 1960's with subtle details in the furniture. The cool colors really make this space feel sexy, but elegant, and simplified in a city where bigger is always better, the Delano takes this notion and flips it on its head in a very refined and subtle space.

Inspirational Space: Scorpio Mykonos

Changes are coming! I have been focusing on educating for so long, I thought it was time to switch things up a bit and start sharing projects that I find inspirational. Being an interior designer, you must be creative, and to be creative, you must have inspiration. So for the next several weeks I am going to share spaces that I enjoy and I hope you enjoy them as much as I do!

SCORPIO MYKONOS HOTEL

Kikladhes, Greece

I love the neutral rustic look of this outdoor dining and lounge space. It feels like a space where you could lounge all day, admiring the beuatiful views.

I love everything about this space. The mixture of textures really make this space unique, warm and inviting. The large windows and rustic minimalism of the furniture make you focus more on what is happening in the space rather than the space itself.

I love the juxtaposition between the cement floors, plaster walls, and unique wood ceiling pattern in this room. And what beautiful doors!

I love how this patio space is built into its surroundings. This space doesn't scream "I'm new, look at me!" In fact, it is a very calm and serene space that seems to embrace the natural beauty of the landscape by not calling attention to itself with bright colors or flashy materials.

These rustic canoes seem to blend in with this lounge space. I love how this place is able to look like it has been here for hundreds of years. This place really is timeless, and has such a unique charm to it, unlike any hotel I've ever seen before.

Great Christmas Tree Alternatives

Christmas trees are such a significant part of celebrating Christmas and yet there are a thousand different ways to decorate a tree (or tree substitute). When you have a small space, or not enough space to have a tree in your home, try a tree substitute!

1. Try using logs nailed to a wall in the shape of a tree. Start with the longest log on the bottom and the shortest log on the top to give that tree shape, and nail each log horizontally. This saves trees worldwide!

2. You could even use a old frame and nail Christmas ornaments to a cork board inside the frame in the shape of a tree. This is an easy project to take down once the season is over.

3. Place a few nails on the wall in the shape of a tree. Place a nail at each point where your tree line will adjust course. String a few pieces of yarn or ribbon from one nail to another until you have a tree shape made of ribbons!
